stencil painting
Stencil painting is an easy way to paint clean, precise pictures or designs with little effort. Stencils can be used to paint portraits, flowers, sharp lines, letters, and much more.
This diversity makes stencil painting a great gift for anyone, as you can cater it to any interest. Stencils can be used to paint patterns, designs, and letters for phrases and sentences. You can paint your brother's favorite cartoon character, your mother's favorite religious quote, or a fun flower design for your best friend.

I am not a naturally talented painter, and so I have taken to stencils to help me. I have mainly used stencils to paint portraits of TV characters for fan art. The first two pictures in the slide show are my own paintings. The first is of a quote and portrait of Tyrion Lannister a character from the HBO show, Game of Thrones. the second is a stencil portrait of Walter White, the main character from the AMC show Breaking Bad.
Stencils made the portraits possible, as I could not have painted them freehand. If I had also used a stencil for the lettering in the first piece, the quote would look cleaner.

Step 2: Prepare the stencil
If you have downloaded a stencil, print your chosen design. If you are drawing it yourself or tracing, do so.
Next, cut your stencil. Remove the areas that will be painted.
Step 3: Tape stencil on surface and paint.
Tape the stencil onto the surface to secure it.
Carefully paint over the missing areas.
Paint extra layers over certain areas can create a shaded effect. Multiple colors may be used. Here, we use pink.
Step 4: Remove stencil and reveal design.
If the paint on your piece is still wet, take care removing the stencil.
If paint on the stencil is still wet, make sure to place stencil dry side down, as to not get unwanted paint on other surfaces.

These are the basics to stencil painting. Below are examples of what can be done. Some pieces show shading colors, the use of multiple layers of stencils, and creative backgrounds. The first two pieces are from my own collection.
